1000 Miles!

September 6, 2008

I passed the 1000-mile threshold after my long run today. I had 12 on the schedule and I since I missed the 6 on Monday I meant to do 14, but I felt so good (it was an absolutely blissful 70 degrees when I set out this morning at 5:40!) that I went ahead and did 16 for the first time.

I did 2 on the bridge by myself, and my friend Sarah met me at the running store for the first seven. We returned to her car, after which I hit the potty and went out for another solo seven. I should have hydrated better all day yesterday and during the early miles of the run. By the time I started hydrating on the second half of the run, it was difficult to compensate for the missed opportunity to replace lost fluid–it takes too long to absorb water, never mind electrolytes. And I was fooled by the cooler temps and left my Sport Beans in the car, thinking, I won’t need these. Fool! In spite of the cooler temps, of course I was sweating like a horse by the end of a 2:30-plus run; the sun was out in full force by the time I made it back to my car. In spite of this, my splits aren’t half bad.

Miles 1 and 2, on the bridge: 9:47, 9:33
Miles 3-9, with Sarah: 10:23, 10:27, 10:15, 10:09, 9:59, 9:54, 9:39
Miles 10-16, solo: 9:22, 9:10, 9:15, 9:22, 9:21, 9:28, 9:35

Can you tell I was slowing down there at the end? Okay, sixteen miler done.

Oh, and 1005 miles on the year.
